Welcome to the Towards One Council Website, a one stop shop for all news relating to the transition to one council for Wiltshire.

Why One Council for Wiltshire?

The bid to become One Council was first submitted by Wiltshire County Council in response to a central government white paper entitled ‘Strong and Prosperous Communities’. This was an invitation to all councils in areas made up of more than one council, such as county, borough and district, to put forward bids to create a new single or 'unitary' council.

Transforming from five authorities into one is hoped to bring significant efficiency savings and improve services for all communities in Wiltshire.

We are working towards

  • Strong customer focus
  • High quality, low cost services
  • Strong and successful communities
  • Transparent local government

What’s happening when?

A large number of projects are taking place to transform frontline services, back office functions and governance structures both up to, and beyond the vesting day of the new council in May 2009.

Who's doing what?

A considerable number of individuals from both the county and district councils are involved in the work to transform to One Council. A clear governance structure has been developed to ensure that all those involved in the transition are aware of their responsibilities.
